Periodontal disease is an infection of the gum and bone around the teeth. It is caused by the germs in your mouth. The first stage is when the germs infect the gums only and it is called gingivitis.
Gingivitis is an infection of the gums only. This may cause the gums to become red and swollen and may sometimes lead to bleeding during tooth brushing.
